Evangelical Home for Children in Ramallah Celebrates Christmas 2015

The Evangelical Home celebrated the traditional Christmas lunch on Friday, 18 December 2015. Archbishop Suheil accompanied with Shafeeqa and his Chaplin joined the Evangelical Home family with Christmas Carlos and lunch that was prepared by the workers. Around 50 people enjoyed their time together in support of the girls who live in the Home while away from their families. Rev. Fadi Diab and Sr. Najah welcomed the guests and led the prayer and carols before lunch.

On the 3rd Sunday of Advent, also known as “Gaudete” or “Rejoicing Sunday”, the Arabic and English speaking congregations of the Cathedral Church of St George the Martyr, Jerusalem, joyfully gathered for the annual Christmas Bazaar, opened by Archbishop Suheil and Dean Hosam, Sunday, 13 December 2015.

Archbishop Suheil visits All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Beirut, Lebanon

Archbishop Suheil Dawani travelled to visit his Diocese in Lebanon the weekend of Sunday 6 December 2015. He was also accompanied by his wife Shafeeqa who leads the Diocesan women’s ministry, Arch- Deacon Luay Haddad from Jordan and Revd Canon Victor Diab and his wife Leila. Archbishop Suheil visited All Saints’ Episcopal Church on the second Sunday of Advent and presided at the Eucharist with Reverend Imad Zoorob, the Rector of All Saints’ in a joint service with the Arabic congregation and the English-Speaking Congregation.

Archbishop Suheil, on behalf of the Diocese, attended the installation of Bishop Michael Curry as the 27th Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church on All Saints Sunday, 01 November 2015. Bishop Curry, 62, is the first African-American to be elected Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church. He is married to Sharon and has two adult children.

The story of the good Samaritan is one that is a guide to Christians across the globe as to how we can be neighbours for those who need us, whoever she or he may be; and it is, I believe, relevant all the more so in our approach to how we as individuals and communities welcome and care for refugees. It is with this in mind that I write, aware of the extraordinary work that ordinary men and women in our Diocese are doing in caring for refugees from Syria and Iraq. The refugee crisis is serious – very serious – and demands that we respond with compassion and care to people who have faced untold horrors, and who have had to leave their martyrs behind.
