Arabic version Today, the Feast of the Epiphany, marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Episcopal Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East, with each of its dioceses, as a constituent member of the worldwide Anglican Communion. While our presence in this Holy Land as the Archbishopric of Jerusalem has deep roots—extending back to 1841 as a vital part of the Church of England—it was on this day fifty years ago that a new chapter of indigenous leadership and provincial autonomy truly began. On 6 January 1976, at St George’s Cathedral, Jerusalem, the formal inauguration of our Province took place. This historic act united four distinct Dioceses: our own Diocese of Jerusalem; Cyprus and the Gulf; Iran; and Egypt with North Africa and the Horn of Africa. As we look back, we acknowledge the evolution of our family, particularly as the Diocese of Egypt transitioned in 2020 to become the new Province of Alexandria. Today, we stand as a Province of three dioceses, currently under my care as Primate and the leadership of my brother, Bishop Sean Semple, as we continue to pray for the filling of the episcopal vacancy in the Diocese of Iran. For the Diocese of Jerusalem, the Feast of the Epiphany has become a profound symbol of indigenous witness. It was on this Feast in 1976 that the Right Reverend Faik Haddad was instituted as the first indigenous Diocesan Bishop in Jerusalem. His leadership paved the way for those who followed before me: Samir Kafity, Riah Abu El Assal, and Suhail Dawani. Their lives and ministries represent the manifestation of Christ’s light through the “Living Stones” of this land—the local faithful who have remained steadfast through decades of transition. And so today, as we celebrate our Golden Anniversary and begin our Jubilee Year—with more commemorations yet to come—we give thanks to our Heavenly Father for the clergy, institutional leaders, and faithful Anglican laity in our Diocese who, over these past five decades, have reflected the light of Christ into one of the most conflicted places in the world. From the Galilee to the West Bank to Gaza, and across our borders into Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria, our mission remains the same: to be a witness to the life-giving Gospel of Jesus Christ in an area torn by bloodshed and unrest. We pray that Christ, the Prince of Peace, may grant us grace and strength to work for the true peace of the Gospel in our region, that the faith, hope, and love of our Lord may continue to be manifest through our lives and ministries in the nations we serve. Amen. ++Hosam Elias Naoum, Primate The Feast of the Epiphany 2026 في هذا اليوم، عيد الظهور الإلهي، نحيي الذكرى الخمسين لتأسيس إقليم القدس والشرق الأوسط للكنيسة الأسقفية، بكل أبرشياته، بوصفه عضوًا مُكوِّنًا في شركة الكنائس الأنغليكانية العالمية. وإذ نعتزّ بحضورنا المتجذّر في هذه الأرض المقدسة بوصفنا مطرانية القدس، وهو حضور يمتدّ إلى عام 1841 كجزء حيّ من كنيسة إنجلترا، فإنّه في مثل هذا اليوم قبل خمسين عامًا انفتحت صفحة جديدة حقًّا من القيادة المحلية والاستقلال الإقليمي. في السادس من كانون الثاني/يناير 1976، وفي كاتدرائية القديس جورج في القدس، جرى التدشين الرسمي لإقليمنا، في حدث تاريخي جمع أربع أبرشيات متميزة: أبرشيتنا، أبرشية القدس؛ وأبرشية قبرص والخليج؛ وأبرشية إيران؛ وأبرشية مصر مع شمال أفريقيا والقرن الأفريقي. وإذ ننظر إلى الوراء اليوم، نعترف بتطوّر عائلتنا الكنسية، ولا سيّما انتقال أبرشية مصر في عام 2020 لتصبح إقليم الإسكندرية الجديد. ونحن اليوم نقف كإقليم يضم ثلاث أبرشيات، موكولة إلى رعايتي بصفتي الرئيس الروحي، وإلى قيادة أخي الأسقف شون سمبل، فيما نواصل الصلاة من أجل ملء الشغور الأسقفي في أبرشية إيران. أمّا بالنسبة إلى أبرشية القدس، فقد صار عيد الظهور الإلهي رمزًا عميقًا للشهادة المحلية الأصيلة. ففي هذا العيد من عام 1976، أُقيم المطران فايق إبراهيم حدّاد أسقفًا أبرشيًا، ليكون أوّل أسقف محلي في القدس. وقد مهّدت قيادته الطريق لمن تبعوه قبلي: سمير قفعيتي، ورياح أبو العسل، وسهيل دواني. إنّ حياتهم وخدماتهم تمثّل تجلّي نور المسيح من خلال «الحجارة الحيّة» لهذه الأرض—أي المؤمنين المحليين الذين ثبتوا بأمانة عبر عقود طويلة من التغييرات. ولهذا، ونحن نحتفل اليوم بذكرى يوبيلنا الذهبي ونستهلّ سنة يوبيلية، مع مزيد من المناسبات التذكارية التي ستتوالى، نرفع الشكر إلى أبينا السماوي من أجل الإكليروس، وقادة مؤسساتنا، وجماعة المؤمنين في أبرشيتنا، الذين عكسوا، على مدى هذه العقود الخمسة، نور المسيح في واحدة ضمن أكثر بقاع العالم نزاعًا. فمن الجليل إلى الضفة الغربية إلى غزة، وعبر الحدود إلى الأردن ولبنان وسوريا، تبقى رسالتنا واحدة: أن نكون شهودًا لإنجيل يسوع المسيح الواهب للحياة في منطقة يمزّقها العنف والاضطرابات. نصلّي أن يمنحنا المسيح، رئيس السلام، نعمة وقوّة لنصنع سلام الإنجيل الحقّ في منطقتنا، وأن تبقى الإيمان والرجاء والمحبة التي من عند ربّنا ظاهرة في حياتنا وخدماتنا في الأوطان التي نخدمها. صلاة لعيد الظهور الإلهي: يا خالق السماوات، يا من قدتَ المجوس بنجمٍ ليسجدوا للطفل المسيح، اهْدِنا واسندنا، لكي نجد نهاية مسيرتنا في يسوع المسيح ربّنا. آمين. †† حسام إلياس نعوم المطران المترئس لإقليم القدس والشرق الأوسط عيد الظهور الإلهي 2026
