Amidst a prayerful atmosphere, His Grace Archbishop Hosam Naoum, the Anglican Archbishop in Jerusalem, presided over the Solemn Eucharist at the Baptismal Site on the banks of the Jordan River, during the annual pilgrimage of the Arab Anglican Episcopal Church, on Friday, February 3rd, 2023. The Diocesan clergy in Jordan, their wives, and hundreds of parishioners from all around the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan attended the service.
Archbishop Naoum welcomed all in attendance and congratulated them on their Pilgrimage to the place where Jesus Christ was baptised. During the service, the congregation renewed their Baptismal Vows, and then Bishop Naoum and the clergy asperged the congregation with blessed water.
In his sermon, Bishop Naoum said: “all four Gospels mention the Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River, which emphasises the importance of this event to the Christian Faith and Doctrine.” He highlighted the importance of the virtue of humility, which is present in the place of the Baptism itself, which is the lowest point on earth, that is not a coincidence, it is rather God’s providence. Moreover, humility can be seen in John the Baptizer himself, through 1 his way of life, 2 his continued call for repentance, and 3 the way he always pointed people to Christ and not himself (behold the Lamb of God.) Bishop Naoum also talked about the historic, geographical, spiritual, and national importance of the Baptismal Site, sending words of appreciation to His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Custodian of the Islamic and Christian Holy Sites in Jerusalem.
Bishop Naoum announced that the Episcopal Church will soon, with God’s help, begin building St. John the Baptist’s Church at the Baptismal Site, similar to the rest of the Churches in Jordan.
Bishop Naoum also thanked all the clergy for their participation and especially thanked Rev’d Canon Faeq Haddad for his efforts in arranging this pilgrimage to the Baptismal Site. Bishop Naoum also thanked the Baptismal Site Commission, the Public Security Directorate, the Jordan Tourism Board, and the Tourism Police, for their support in insuring the success of the pilgrimage.

ترأس غبطة رئيس الأساقفة الأنچليكاني في القدس المطران حسام نعوم خدمة الشركة المقدّسة الإحتفالية في موقع المغطس على ضفاف نهر الأردن وذلك خلال الحجّ السّنوي لمطرانية الكنيسة الأنچليكانيّة الأسقفيّة العربيّة، وسط أجواء من الإيمان والخشوع وأصوات التّرانيم التعبديّة، يوم الجمعة 3/2/2023. شارك في الإحتفال كهنة الرعايا الأسقفيّة في الأردن وزوجاتهم والمئات من رعايا المملكة الأردنيّة الهاشميّة.
رحّب رئيس الأساقفة نعوم بجميع الحضور وهنّأهم بمناسبة الحج إلى مكان عماد السيد المسيح له المجد.
خلال خدمة القداس قام الجميع بتجديد نذور المعموديّة، ونضح المطران والرّعاة حشود المؤمنين بالماء المقدّس. قدّم المطران نعوم العظة بمناسبة الإحتفال بعماد الرّب في الموقع نفسه قائلاً: “دوّنت الأناجيل الأربعة قصّة المعموديّة في نهر الأردن، ممّا يؤكّد على مركزيّة هذا الحدث المقدّس والهام في الإيمان والعقيدة المسيحيّة”. وألقى الضّوء على فضيلة التّواضع التي تظهر بوضوح في موقع المغطس نفسه الذي يقع في البقعة الأكثر انخفاضاً في الكون، وهذا ليس صدفة بل له قصد إلهيّ، بالإضافة إلى شخصيّة المعمدان الذي عكس التواضع في أمور عديدة، منها 1. نهج حياته 2. دعوته المستمرّة للتّوبة 3. كان يشير ويوجّه إلى المسيح وليس إلى نفسه (هوذا حمل الله). كما وتحدّث المطران نعوم عن أهميّة موقع المغطس وأبعاده التاريخيّة والأثريّة والجغرافيّة والروحيّة والوطنيّة، ووجّه تحياته الخاصّة باسمه وباسم المجمع الكنسي لجلالة الملك عبد الله الثاني حفظه الله، صاحب الوصاية الهاشميّة على المقدّسات الإسلاميّة والمسيحيّة في القدس.
وأعلن أنّ الكنيسة الأسقفيّة ستباشر بمعونة الرب ببناء كنيسة القديس يوحنا المعمدان في المغطس في الفترة القادمة، أسوة بباقي الكنائس في الأردن.
هذا ويقدّم المطران نعوم شكره لجميع الرعاة على مشاركتهم وخاصة للقس الكنن فائق حداد على مجهوده في التّرتيبات والتحضيرات اللازمة لزيارة الحج والاحتفال في المغطس. كما ويشكر المطران نعوم الأمن العام وشّرطة السّياحة وهيئة المغطس وهيئة تنشيط السّياحة الأردنيّة على عملهم في تسهيل الحج إلى المغطس.
