Archbishop Hosam Naoum, the Anglican Archbishop in Jerusalem, opened the sessions of the Diocesan Majma of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem for the year 2021 via Zoom on Monday November 8th, 2021. The theme for the Majma this year is “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. (John 10.10b)”
At the beginning Archbishop Hosam welcomed all those in attendance, clergy, laity, and heads of institutions. Then Rev’d Wadie Far led the morning prayer, accompanied by Rev’d Deacon Jamil Maher Khader. At the end of the morning prayer Archdeacon Imad Zorob gave a homily for the first day.
Rev’d Fadi Diab, the Secretary of the Majma, announced that there is a quorum, and presented the Majma’s report from 2019 – 2020. In the second session Bishop Naoum presented his report, which included spiritual, pastoral, and administrative aspects. It also included a plan and a vision for financial and administrative wellness of the diocese and its institutions.
The members of the Majma thanked the Bishop for his detailed report. Some members had questions and clarification concerning the report, all of which were answered thoroughly and thoughtfully by Bishop Hosam. Her Excellency Minister Haifa Najjar, the Jordanian Minister of Culture, participated in the Majma, and conveyed greetings to the Archbishop and the members of the Majma. Bishop Naoum welcomed Minister Najjar, and congratulated her on her new role, and thanked her for agreeing to become the Archbishop’s Educational Advisor. His Grace also appointed Financial and Legal Advisors. In today’s final session, some of the Diocese partners and friends from all around the world joined the conference. They all shared their greetings, love, and well wishes to the Bishop and all members of the Majma. At the end of the day’s sessions Rev’d Canon Faeq Haddad, accompanied by Rev’d Jamil Mounir Khader led the evening prayer. Rev’d Canon Fuad Dagher enriched both the morning and evening prayers by singing hymns. The sessions of the Majma continues until Wednesday Evening. We pray that God may bless all the remaining sessions, may all the decisions taken in our meetings glorify God’s name, and spread God’s Kingdom.
