Archbishop Hosam Naoum, the Anglican Archbishop in Jerusalem, participated in the thanksgiving service at All Saints Episcopal Cathedral in Al Zamalek- Cairo, celebrating the inauguration of the Province of Alexandria on Friday, October 8th, 2021.
Archbishop Sami Fawzi, the Primate of the new Province, presided over the service, while Archbishop Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury and the head of the Anglican Communion, preached and announced the new Province of Alexandria. Which is the forty-first province in the Anglican Communion, and was established on May 20th, 2020, but the service was postponed because of the COVID pandemic.
Present at the service were the bishops and clergy of the new province, representatives from the different churches in Egypt, representatives of the Imam of Al Azhar, the government, and embassies.
Archbishop Naoum, addressed Archbishop Welby saying: “Dear Archbishop of Canterbury, on behalf of the bishops, clergy, and the laity of the Anglican Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East, we thank you for the declaration of the Province of Alexandria, to be recognized as the forty-first province of the Anglican Communion, the province is composed of the dioceses of Egypt, North Africa, the Horn of Africa, and Gambela.”
It is worth mentioning that before the Province of Alexandria was created, all the regions in it composed the Diocese of Egypt, which was part of the Anglican Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East. After the Diocese of Egypt grew and expanded, they requested to become a Province, and so the new Province was born. They chose the name Alexandria because of the Historic and Theological importance of the city in the life of the Church in the first centuries.
We wish the new Province of Alexandria, its bishops, clergy, and parishes all the best, looking forward to joint ministry between the new Province and the Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East.

رئيس الأساقفة حسام نعوم يشارك في حفل تدشين إقليم الاسكندرية في القاهرة يوم الجمعة ٠٨/ ١٠/ ٢٠٢١
شارك رئيس الأساقفة الأنچليكاني في القدس المطران حسام نعوم في خدمة الشكر الاحتفالية في كاتدرائية جميع القديسين في الزمالك – القاهرة، بمناسبة تدشين إقليم الاسكندرية يوم الجمعة ٠٨/ ١٠/ ٢٠٢١.
ترأس الخدمة رئيس الأساقفة سامي فوزي المطران المترئس للإقليم الجديد، بحضور رئيس أساقفة كانتربري جاستن ويلبي رئيس الشركة الأنچليكانية في العالم، الذي قدّم عظة القداس وأعلن رسمياً عن تكوين إقليم الإسكندرية الأنچليكاني الجديد، الإقليم الواحد والأربعين ضمن الشركة الأنچليكانية، منذ تاريخ ٢٠/ ٠٥/ ٢٠٢٠. لم يتمّ الاحتفال حينه بسبب جائحة كورونا.
حضر الاحتفال أساقفة الإقليم والرعاة وممثلين عن كنائس مصر، وعن الجامع الأزهر والحكومة والوزارات والسفارات، وجمع غفير من المؤمنين.
وجّه رئيس الأساقفة نعوم كلمة لرئيس الأساقفة ويلبي قائلاً: “غبطة رئيس أساقفة كانتربري العزيز، بالنيابة عن إقليم القدس والشرق الأوسط للكنيسة الأنچليكانية الأسقفية، أكليروساً وعلمانيين، نشكرك من أجل الإعلان والاعتراف بإقليم الإسكندرية الأنچليكاني، الإقليم الواحد والأربعين والمكوّن حسب دستور الإقليم الجديد، من أبرشيات مصر وشمال افريقيا والقرن الافريقي وچامبيلا”.
يُذكر أنّ قبل تأسيس إقليم الإسكندرية، كانت جميع المناطق تابعة لأبرشية مصر وبالتالي جزءً من إقليم القدس والشرق الأوسط الذي ما زال يشمل أبرشيات القدس وقبرص والخليج وإيران. أبرشية مصر نمت وتوسعت ولهذا طلبت من الجهات المعنية أن تستقل بتكوين اقليم جديد، فوُلد إقليم الإسكندرية، التي تعود تسميته للأهمية التاريخية واللاهوتية في حياة الكنيسة في القرون الأولى.
نتمنى كل الخير والبركة لإقليم الإسكندرية وأساقفته ورعاته وشعبه، آملين أن يكون تعاون مع إقليم القدس والشرق الأوسط في خدمة البشارة والملكوت.
