Start of Christian Unity Week, 2016

At the beginning of the week for Christian Unity in Jerusalem, Christians met and worshipped at St George-the-Martyr Cathedral in Jerusalem. Archbishop Suheil preached and hosted a reception following the service in the Guest House. The Olive branches Choir sang an anthem and number of hymns.

Visit to Al Ahli Arab Hospital, Gaza

The Archbishop visited Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza. The Archbishop met the director Suhaila Tarazi and the Dr Maher Ayyad and opened the new Mamogram in the Diagnostics Centre. The Diocese are working to make Al Ahli Arab hospital an oncology centre. He also toured the hospital visiting patients and staff and celebrated the Eucharist in the Hospital chapel.

Ordinations to the diaconate, February 2016

Reverend Fares Naoum (Redeemer Church, Amman), Reverend Jamil (The Church of the Good Shepherd, Salt, Jordan), and the Reverend David Roche (All Saints, Beirut and CMS Mission Partner) were ordained to the diaconate by the Most Reverend Suheil Dawani, Anglican Archbishop in Jerusalem.

Service at Jordan baptismal site, February 2016

On 12th February 2016, Archbishop Suheil preached and presided at a wonderful service attended by over 1100 people from across Jordan at the Baptismal Site. It was a joyous occasion with Emily, from Irbid, being baptized and all renewing their baptismal vows.

Service with guests from Canterbury, Southwell and Nottingham

The Archbishop preached at St George’s Cathedral. The congregation was joined by pilgrim singers from the Diocese of Jerusalem’s link Diocese in the Province of Canterbury, Southwell and Nottingham. At the service thanks was given both for Dean Hosam’s return from Virginia Theological Seminary, but also for his birthday and in celebration of the 18th anniversary of his ordination.

The Archbishop of Dublin and Glendalough, the Most Reverend Michael Jackson preached. Also in attendance were: the Reverend Ken Rue; Canon Bob Edmonds (The Episcopal Church, representing the Presiding Bishop, the Right Reverend Michael Curry), The Very Reverend Canon Dr. Gregory Jenks, The Reverend Canon Dr. Lawrence Hilditch, The Reverend Canon David Longe. After the service the Bishop hosted a reception, where among others he welcomed Paul Haines who had walked, on pilgrimage, from Rome to Jerusalem. Mr. Haines brought greetings from the Diocese of Truro, Cornwall, UK.

Visit of the Greek Orthodox Patriarch, December 2015

The Archbishop and Mrs. Dawani welcomed the Greek Orthodox Patriarch, Theophilus III along with Archbishop Aristarchos and Archbishop Esechius. Afterwards, Archbishop Suheil welcomed representatives from Union of Charitable Societies and local dignitaries from Jerusalem society. Also in attendance were Dean Hosam Naoum, Dr. Hisham Nassar and Reverend Canon David Longe.

Christmas Eve, Carols at the Church of the Nativity attended by His Excellency, Mr Mahmoud Abbas, President of Palestine, and Mr Naif Al-Faeyes, Jordanian Minister of Tourism, representing His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan. Also in attendance were the British Consul-General, Dr Alistair McPhail; the British Ambassador, His Excellency Mr David Quarrey, and other representatives from the international community.
