Under the patronage of Archbishop Hosam Naoum the St. George’s School holds a graduation ceremony.

The St. George’s School in Jerusalem celebrates the graduation of its 122th class since 1899, which they called the class of “Future and Charity”, under the patronage of Bishop Hosam Naoum, the Anglican Archbishop in Jerusalem, on Sunday May 22nd, 2022. Rev’d Canon Wadie Far, the vice chair of the Board of Directors, Rev’d Canon Don Binder, the Archbishop’s Chaplain, members of the Board of Directors, the Director of the School, the Heads of the Departments, administrative and academic facilities, and parents of the graduates all attended the ceremony that took place at the Notre Dame Center in Jerusalem.

After the procession of the graduates entered all the congregation stood for the Palestinian National Anthem, then Rev’d Canon Wadie Far commenced the ceremony with a prayer.

The kindergarten students sang the School’s Anthem. Other shows were presented by students from the elementary and secondary schools, such as an instrumental piece, a traditional “dabkah,” and a dance. Videos depicting the graduates activities, and memories, and the history of the School were shown, as well.

In his speech, Mr. Richard Zananiri, the Director of the School, thanked Bishop Naoum, and congratulated the graduates. The graduates gave speeches in both English and Arabic.

Archbishop Naoum said in his speech: “Graduation is a time of joy and a time to be proud of all the achievements for both the graduates, their parents, and their teachers. However, as you know this is not the end of the road, nor is it the goal, but rather it is a transition into a new era of the graduates life. A transition towards higher education and work life.”

Bishop Naoum congratulated the School’s Academic and Administrative faculties , and staff, on their achievement of graduating a new class, and thanked them for all their sacrifices through the previous years.

He also congratulated the graduates and their parents, and wished the graduates a bright future. Finally he thanked the Board members for all their support.

Heads of the Departments, Mrs. Doreen Ajrab Karkar, and Mrs. Rula Michael, saying: “you have my gratitude and thanks for your continued work and for the long hours you put in, for the enhancement of the school, and the Christian presence here in Jerusalem through the ministry of education. I have seen in your work the values of team work, and support to one another, and to the other Diocesan Institutions , and the Diocese itself, which supports us all.”

In the ceremony torches of education and freedom where passed down from the graduates to the students of the 11th grade, to symbolize the continuation of the educational journey.
