The Episcopal Church of our Savior in Pasadena , California hosted a dinner in honour of Bishop Hosam Naoum, the Anglican Archbishop in Jerusalem, accompanied by Mrs. Rafa Qafiti Naoum, his wife, under the patronage of Bishop John Taylor, the Bishop of Los Angeles, and his wife Canon Kathleen O’Connor, Rev’d Jeff Thornberg, and his wife Rev’d Anne Thornberg, also some of the clergy and Diocesan staff from the Diocese of Los Angeles, who arranged the event, were present at the dinner on Sunday Evening, November 13, 2022. This event was for the Archbishop to meet with the Arabic Community, both Muslims and Christians, who live in Los Angeles and who are originally from Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon and other nationalities.
Bishop Taylor welcomed the assembly, and then Ms. Eileen Spencer, the newly elected Executive Director of the American Friends of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem (AFEDJ) https://afedj.org, gave a speech.
In his speech to those from Arabic Origins who are living abroad Bishop Naoum talked about the importance of building bridges between them and their countries. Since these relationships will keep them connected, and will increase their awareness of the importance of supporting the Christian Humanitarian Institutions, that serves all people without discrimination. Bishop Naoum emphasised the importance of deepening their roots in their countries, and their connection with the Church, especially during the hardships that the countries and the Church are facing. Bishop Naoum reminded the people that the ministry performed by the Diocese of Jerusalem through its health, education, and rehabilitation institutions is for all, aiming to safeguard people’s dignity and their well-being, it is equally for those who remain in their countries, and those who are abroad.
It is worth mentioning that the Episcopal Church of our Savior in Pasadena has a strong partnership with St. Paul’s Church in Shefa-Amr, a partnership that started almost twenty years ago.
إستضافت كنيسة المخلص الأسقفية في باسادينا كاليفورنيا عشاء على شرف المطران حسام نعوم رئيس الأساقفة الأنچليكاني في القدس وحرمه السيدة رفاء قفعيتي نعوم، تحت رعاية أسقف لوس انجلوس المطران جون تيلار وحرمه الكنن كاثي اوكونر، وراعي الكنيسة القس جيفري ثورنبرچ وحرمه القسيسة آن ثورنبرچ بحضور بعض اكليروس وموظفي أبرشية لوس انجلوس الذين عملوا على تحضير حفل العشاء هذا، في مساء يوم الأحد 13/11/2022. وذلك بهدف اللقاء والتعّرف على الجالية العربية من المسلمين والمسيحيين المقيمين في لوس انجلوس من أصول فلسطينية وأردنية ولبنانيّة وغيرها.
استقبل المطران تيلار الحضور بكلمة ترحيبية ثمّ قدّمت السيدة أيلين سبنسر المديرة التنفيذية المنتخبة لجمعية الأصدقاء الأمريكان لمطرانية القدس الأسقفية (AFEDJ) https://afedj.org كلمة خاصّة بهذه المناسبة. وتمحورت كلمة المطران نعوم للحاضرين من الجالية العربيّة المقيمين في المهجر حول أهميّة بناء الجسور بين الجالية والوطن، للتواصل وتغذية الوعي لديهم في تحمّل المسؤوليّة في دعم المؤسّسات المسيحيّة الإنسانيّة التي تخدم الجميع دون تمييز، اذ يجب تثبيت جذور الذين في المهجر وتوطيد العلاقة مع الكنيسة والوطن، خاصّة في وسط التحديات والحواجز التي تواجهها. كما وذكّر المطران نعوم جميع الحضور قائلاً: “الخدمة السّامية التي تقوم بها مطرانية القدس من خلال مؤسّساتها التأهيليّة والشفائيّة والتربويّة والتعليميّة هي من أجل الإنسان وكرامته وعافيته، نعم من أجل أبناء وبنات البلاد بالتساوي مع أولئك الذين يعيشون في المهجر”.
من الجدير بالذكر أنّ كنيسة المخلّص الأسقفية في باسادينا تربطها علاقة شراكة مع كنيسة مار بولس الأسقفية في شفاعمرو منذ ما يقارب العشرين عاماً.
