Upon the invitation of The Right Rev’d John Taylor, the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles, Archbishop and Ms. Naoum and the Rev’d Canon Don Binder, the Archbishop’s Chaplain, participate in the Diocesan Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles. The theme of the convention is “Back to the Holy City: The Hope of Christ in our time,” where Archbishop Naoum gave a keynote address on Saturday, November 12th, 2022, after Canon Binder introduced the Archbishop to the members of convention.
Archbishop Naoum commenced his speech by offering a word of gratitude to Bishop Taylor for the invitation and the opportunity to participate and offer the keynote address. Archbishop Naoum conveyed greetings and best wishes to the people of LA on behalf of the clergy and people of the Diocese of Jerusalem.
In the first part of his talk, Bishop Naoum offered a meditation on the theme of reconciliation, pointing to the recent visit to England, where he participated in the celebrations of translating the Relics of St. Chad to Lichfield Cathedral; a fruit of the Anglican-Catholic reconciliation. The visit to Coventry Cathedral was also mentioned particularly the story of the “Cross of Nails” leaving the assembly with a question to reflect on: “Will we allow forgiveness to touch our hearts and our lives?”
In the second part of his speech, Archbishop Naoum spoke about the challenges and difficulties facing the Diocese of Jerusalem, without neglecting the hopes and aspirations of the blessed ministry the diocese offers through its parishes and institutions, not only to Christians but to the whole community. He also invited all members of convention and their congregations to come on pilgrimage to the Holy Land, saying: “Come and See. Come and visit both the ancient and the living stones and spend time with us in worship and fellowship and to walk with us in the footsteps of Christ.” He went on to say, “We have been witnessing to the love of Christ in the land where it all happened for the last two millennia and will continue to do so for the coming two millennia.”
It is worth mentioning that the link between Jerusalem and Los Angeles goes back to more than fifteen years.
بدعوة من المطران جون تيلار أسقف لوس انجلوس، يشارك المطران حسام نعوم رئيس الأساقفة الأنچليكاني في القدس، برفقة زوجته السيدة رفاء قفعيتي نعوم والقس الكنن دون بيندر مرافقه، في دورة المجمع لأبرشية لوس انجلوس الأسقفية المائة والسابعة والعشرين، التي تُعقد تحت شعار “العودة الى المدينة المقدسة”، حيث ألقى سيادته الكلمة الرئيسيّة يوم السبت 12 /11/ 2022، بعد أن عرّف عنه وقدّمه للحضور الكنن بيندر.
شكر المطران نعوم المطران تيلار على الدعوة وفرصة المشاركة وإلقاء الكلمة، ونقل تحيات أبرشية القدس لأسقف وكهنة وعلمانيي لوس انجلوس.
في الجزء الأول من كلمته قدّم رئيس الأساقفة نعوم تأمّلاً عن خدمة المصالحة، مشيراً إلى زيارته الأخيرة إلى انچلترا، حيث شارك في احتفالات استقبال ذخائر القديس تشاد في كاتدرائية لتشفيلد، اذ كان ثمر زمن من المصالحة الأنچليكانية الكاثوليكية، كما وذكر كاتدرائية كوفنتري وقصة “صليب المسامير” هناك. وترك لهم سؤالاً للتفكير: “هل نسمح للمغفرة أن تلمس قلوبنا وحياتنا؟”
وفي الجزء الثاني تحدّث عن واقع التحديات والصعوبات التي تواجهها أبرشية القدس، دون أن ينسى الآمال والخدمة المباركة التي تقدّمها الكنيسة برعاياها ومؤسّساتها، ليس فقط للمسيحيين بل للمجتمع بشكل عام.
دعا المطران نعوم الحضور وحثّهم على القيام برحلة حجّ للأرض المقدّسة قائلاً: “”تعال وانظر” تعالوا زوروا الكنائس التاريخيّة والأماكن المقدّسة، تعالوا وزوروا الحجارة الحيّة واقضوا وقتاً معهم في الصلاة والحديث ومشاركة الطعام والسير في أرض المسيح”. “منذ الفي عام ونحن في الأرض المقدسة، نحافظ على الإيمان ونشهد لمحبة المسيح، وآمل أن نستمر بهذا لألفي سنة قادمة”
يُذكر أنّ علاقة مطرانية القدس ومطرانية لوس انجلوس
تعود إلى أكثر من خمسة عشرة سنة.
