Archbishop Hosam Naoum, the Anglican Archbishop in Jerusalem, presided over the Eucharist at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church celebrating the feast of the Conversion of St. Paul, assisted by Rev’d Canon Fuad Dagher. Rev’d Canon Don Binder, Rev’d Imad Deibas, Rev’d Nael Abu Rahmoun, Rev’d Wadie Far were present and concelebrated the Eucharist. Members from the congrigation, and the ladies and youth groups were present as well.
In his sermon Bishop Naoum invited the congrigation to ponder upon the Conversion of St. Paul, explaining that the main character of the story is Jesus Christ who appeared to Saul and changed his life, from a persecutor to an Evangelist to the Nations, he also wrote two thirds of the New Testament. Bishop Naoum also eluded to the role of St. Ananias, who followed the will of Jesus Christ after he told him, “Go, for he is an instrument whom I have chosen to bring my name before Gentiles and kings and before the people of Israel; I myself will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name. (Acts 9: 15-16, NRSV)” St. Ananias went to the street called Straight in Damascus and met Saul, and by laying his hands Saul’s eyes were opened and he was filled with the Holy Spirit.
The Conversion of Saul was a transformation from Sin to Righteousness, from darkness into light, and from death into life in Jesus. St. Paul in his letter to the Romans equated this transformation to leaving our sins once and for all, since we are buried with Christ and are raised again into new life.
After the service all present went to the church hall to celebrate.
The Church celebrates the Feast day of the Conversion of St. Paul on January 25th. We congratulate all our parishes with St. Paul as their Patron; St. Paul’s Church – Jerusalem, St. Paul’s Church – Ashrafieh, and St. Paul’s Church – Shefa-Amr.
كنيسة مار بولس في شفاعمرو تحتفل بعيد شفيعها يوم السبت 22/1/2022
ترأس رئيس الأساقفة الأنجليكاني في القدس المطران حسام نعوم خدمة الشركة المقدسة في كنيسة مار بولس الأسقفية في شفاعمرو بمناسبة عيد اهتداء شفيعها، عاونه كاهن الرعية القس الكنن فؤاد داغر، بحضور ومشاركة القس الكنن دون بيندر والقس عماد دعيبس والقس نائل أبو رحمون والقس وديع الفار وأعضاء الرعية من الشبيبة والسيدات والعائلات.
تحدث المطران نعوم في عظته عن ميزات عيد اهتداء القديس بولس وانّ البطل الحقيقي في قصته هو الرب يسوع المسيح الذي ظهر لشاول وغيّر حياته من مضطهد للمسيحيين إلى مبشر ورسول الأمم، وقد كتب بولس الرسول أكثر من ثلثي العهد الجديد. وأشار إلى دور القديس حنانيا الذي عمل بمشيئة الرب يسوع بعد أن ظهر له في رؤيا «ٱذْهَبْ! لِأَنَّ هَذَا لِي إِنَاءٌ مُخْتَارٌ لِيَحْمِلَ ٱسْمِي أَمَامَ أُمَمٍ وَمُلُوكٍ وَبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ. لِأَنِّي سَأُرِيهِ كَمْ يَنْبَغِي أَنْ يَتَأَلَّمَ مِنْ أَجْلِ ٱسْمِي». (أعمال الرسل 9: 15-16). ذهب حنانيا إلى الزقاق الذي يقال له المستقيم في دمشق والتقى بشاول ووضع يديه عليه وجعله يبصر ويمتلىء من الروح القدس. اهتداء شاول كان تحوّل من الخطيئة إلى البر ومن الظلمة إلى النور ومن الموت الى حياة وولادة جديدة في المسيح وقد شبّه في رسالته إلى كنيسة رومية هذا التغيير بالموت عن الخطيئة حيث ندفن مع المسيح ونقوم معه، وهذا ما ترمز اليه المعمودية.
بعد الخدمة التقى الجميع في قاعة الكنيسة لتبادل التهاني وتناول الحلوى.
يصادف عيد اهتداء القديس بولس يوم 25/1 من كل عام، نهنىء ونصلي من أجل الرعاة والرعايا التي تحمل اسم القديس بولس الرسول وهي كنيسة مار بولس في القدس الغربية، كنيسة ما بولس في الأشرفية عمان وكنيسة مار بولس في شفاعمرو.
