On Monday, 4th April 2016, the Archbishop of Melbourne, and Primate of Australia, the Most Reverend Dr Philip Freier was installed as Episcopal Canon in the seat of Mount Hermon by the Dean of the Cathedral, The Very Reverend Hosam Naoum. Archbishop Suheil presented Archbishop Philip with a Jerusalem Cross during the service. The Very Reverend Canon Dr Gregory Jenks preached. The Reverence Canon Dr Lawrence Hilditch led the prayers. The Reverend Don Stanley read the lesson from Isaiah. Also in attendance were: The Propst, The Right Reverend Wolfgang Schmidt and Archbishop Suheil’s Chaplain, The Reverend Canon David Longe.
Archbishop Philip visited the region for two days during which time he preached at St George’s Cathedral; visited Jericho; toured the Princess Basma Centre on the Mount of Olives, and inspected St Peter’s Church, Jaffa. St Peter’s Church Jaffa is currently being renovated (including a church property adjacent to the church), as it was closed in 1948. Archbishop Philip also had the opportunity to meet with the Armenian Patriarch, His Beatitude Nourhan Manougian, who visited Archbishop Suheil to convey Easter greetings.
